Located on the West Coast and set against a backdrop of towering trees and aquamarine sea, the composition of this single-family beach house celebrates Barbados' vernacular wooden Chattel house by placing it on an elevated masonry ground plane while preserving the layers of privacy, typical in this iconic typology.
Duality becomes a theme throughout the house. Walls become windows, windows become doors, glass roofs dissolve into sky and boundaries between indoors and outdoors are seamless allowing the small house to feel exceptionally spacious.

TREETOPS
Visually merging with the dramatic landscape, this house and pool have been designed to allow the towering palms to take centre stage. Crisp geometric portals punctuate entry points and support roof structures to provide shelter from the frequent rain showers.
An extensive renovation project, buildings were combined to accommodate the project program and walls removed to create generous open plan interior spaces. A large pool was added to hug the house and to direct your gaze towards distant east coast views. Large sliding glass doors couple with louvre windows to provide light filled, naturally ventilated interior spaces.

SALAMANDER
The design of this holiday home is comprised of a series of single volume pavilions stretched along a southern ridge on the private island of Mustique.
Double aspect rooms take full advantage of the site and provide spectacular views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea with generous openings framing both sunrise and the sunset panoramas.
In quiet contrast to the site’s wildness, the scale and detailing of the architectural language borrows from the local context paying homage to Oliver Messel, the author of Mustique's vernacular.
